The earliest traces of human settlement in the Kiukainen area date back some 4000 years, to the Stone Age. That is why the last cultural period of the Finnish Stone Age has been named the Kiukainen Culture. The Kiukainen area itself was named after the magnificent Bronze Age burial monuments, or barrows, found throughout the area.
